The Huancayo mayoral race in Peru’s 2026 municipal elections features a highly fragmented field of more than 20 registered candidates, with no dominant frontrunner emerging from recent online surveys or local polling. Traders assign the highest implied probabilities to Wilmer Isac Canales Ascona and Albino Aguirre Pacheco around 37%, followed closely by several others in the mid-30s range, reflecting the absence of decisive polling leads or major campaign breakthroughs in recent weeks. The tight spread stems from Peru’s multi-party system, limited name recognition for most contenders, and ongoing voter surveys that show divided preferences across parties like Primero La Gente and Acción Popular. Upcoming developments such as final JNE candidate validations, local debates, or late-August survey closures could consolidate support and widen gaps ahead of election day.
