Berlin’s September 20 Abgeordnetenhaus election features fragmented polling among the CDU, Die Linke, Greens, AfD, and SPD, none of which approaches a majority on current surveys. Incumbent Kai Wegner’s July withdrawal as CDU lead candidate over January power-outage communications shifted the party’s nomination to Finance Senator Stefan Evers, while Die Linke fields Elif Eralp and the Greens back Werner Graf. Traders price the top contenders closely because post-election coalition talks—potentially left-leaning or CDU-SPD-Green—will determine the governing mayor after the vote. Further polling shifts, debate performances, or signals on coalition viability could widen the gap before resolution on the eventual coalition agreement.
