China's July CPI print of 0.5% year-over-year, below forecasts amid persistent food deflation and soft non-food demand, has anchored trader expectations for the August annual rate near similar subdued levels. Weak domestic consumption, ample pork supplies, and earlier energy price easing continue to cap broader price pressures, while core inflation holds around 0.9%. Seasonal factors such as summer-to-autumn vegetable price rebounds, pork stabilization, and recent fuel adjustments introduce modest upside risks that support the leading 0.7%-0.8% bracket. Manufacturing PMI contraction and slower growth momentum reinforce the view that underlying demand remains insufficient for stronger readings, though official pledges of additional fiscal measures could provide limited tailwinds if they boost near-term activity.
