Incumbent Patrick Johnstone of Community First New West holds a modest edge in trader pricing at 42.5 percent over challenger Daniel Fontaine of the New West Progressives at 34 percent, reflecting the closely contested dynamics of the October 17, 2026 municipal election. Johnstone’s re-election bid emphasizes continuity on housing affordability, renter protections, and social supports that defined his 2022 victory, while Fontaine’s campaign highlights council divisions, taxpayer accountability, and stronger public-safety measures such as expanded enforcement patrols and street-cleaning initiatives. Four years of policy clashes between the two factions on council have sharpened the contest, with both parties fielding full slates and trading announcements on crime reduction and development priorities. Late campaign events, turnout in swing neighborhoods, and any shifts in voter sentiment on homelessness or fiscal issues could still widen the gap before ballots close.
