The open Peterborough mayoral contest features seven candidates after incumbent Jeff Leal announced on August 20 he would not seek re-election, just before nominations closed. With no sitting mayor in the race and limited public polling available, trader probabilities remain dispersed across Neil Morton, Keith Riel, Michael Eamon, Rebecca Schillemat, and others. The two-month window until the October 26 vote, combined with the absence of established frontrunners or major local controversies, keeps the field competitive. Separation could emerge from candidate debates, endorsements by local organizations or councillors, fundraising disclosures, or shifts in voter priorities on issues such as economic development and municipal spending.
