Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council maintains the August 30, 2026 first-round date for presidential and legislative elections despite ongoing gang violence and funding shortfalls that have repeatedly postponed prior milestones. In April 2026, the council delayed voter and candidate registration, originally set to begin April 1, citing a new government decree under Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, though officials have not revised the overall electoral calendar. Fils-Aimé has publicly questioned the feasibility of an August vote amid security constraints, while the transitional council's February 2026 handover and international calls for stability reinforce pressure to meet the December runoff and February 2027 inauguration targets. These factors underpin trader consensus that no additional postponement of the core election dates will occur.
