Recent polling aggregates show Labour and National nearly tied on primary vote share near 30% each three months before the November 7 election, with the National-led coalition facing erosion from the surging Opportunity Party and softer support for NZ First. Labour has posted modest gains in several surveys while the governing bloc remains vulnerable to swings among minor parties under the MMP system, where coalition arithmetic often determines the outcome more than raw party votes. Trader pricing reflects this uncertainty, with no decisive lead established despite National’s incumbency advantage and Labour’s opposition positioning. Key variables that could widen the gap include further shifts in Opportunity or Green support, official campaign advertising from early September, and any late movement in preferred prime minister ratings ahead of candidate nominations.
