Flávio Bolsonaro holds a narrow edge in Rio Grande do Sul first-round positioning due to sustained regional strength for the Liberal Party and the Bolsonaro political brand in southern states, where voters prioritize public security and conservative policies. Recent national polls, including Quaest surveys, show him competitive with Lula overall while outperforming in the South; a May Genial/Quaest state-level reading gave him a clear lead there in head-to-head testing. Lula’s incumbency and PT base provide counterbalance, but the fragmented field of center-right and smaller candidates—including Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and Renan Santos—has not yet consolidated enough support to challenge the frontrunner locally. Trader consensus reflects these regional voting patterns and limited recent shifts from candidate controversies or alliances ahead of the October 4 vote.
