Louisiana’s 5th congressional district features an open seat after incumbent Julia Letlow announced her Senate bid, drawing a crowded field of Republican candidates including state legislators Mike Echols, Rick Edmonds, Stewart Cathey, and Gabe Firment alongside multiple Democrats. The state’s November 3 jungle primary requires over 50 percent for an outright win or sends the top two to a December 12 runoff. Recent redistricting and the August 7 filing deadline solidified this split field in a district that favored Republicans by wide margins in prior cycles. Traders assign 69.5 percent probability to no outright winner because vote fragmentation among Republicans makes reaching a majority threshold unlikely without consolidation before election day.
