Michelle Dracoulis, the incumbent Derwent Valley Council mayor in Tasmania, holds the leading trader consensus ahead of the October 27, 2026, local government election under the state's preferential voting system. Recent council actions, including budget measures that shifted the authority toward a projected surplus and the appointment of a new CEO through a national process, have supported her position following earlier governance challenges. A November 2025 no-confidence motion against her lapsed without a seconder. With nominations closing September 21, lower probabilities for challengers such as Casey Farrell, Jess Burns, and James Randall reflect limited organized campaigns or public visibility to date. Trader assessments incorporate these governance and financial developments alongside the structural advantages of incumbency in a multi-candidate field.
