The special election to fill the vacancy created by Rep. David Scott’s April 2026 death placed multiple Democratic and Republican candidates on a single July 28 ballot under Georgia’s majority-vote rule. Trader consensus priced a strong probability of an outright first-round winner because of Marcye Scott’s name recognition as the late incumbent’s daughter, limited Republican opposition, and expectations of consolidated support in the heavily Democratic Atlanta-area district. Low-turnout dynamics and vote fragmentation among several Democrats ultimately produced no majority, advancing Scott and Everton Blair to the August 25 runoff instead. Pre-election positioning reflected the wisdom of crowds assessing these structural factors and historical special-election patterns in safe seats.
