Persistent inflation near 6% in July 2026, well above the Banco de la República’s 3% target, underpins the 91% market-implied probability of no change at the September policy meeting, following the June hike to 12% and the July hold. The restrictive stance, with a real policy rate of 6-7%, reflects elevated inflation expectations and solid domestic demand, reinforced by the central bank’s July assessment that further tightening may be needed before easing. Traders price only modest odds of a 25-50 bps hike, consistent with the recent pause and incoming data. Key near-term catalysts include the August CPI release on September 7 and any signals on El Niño-related supply pressures or labor market strength that could shift the rate path.
