France's 2027 presidential election, scheduled for April and May, features a two-round system and bars incumbent Emmanuel Macron from a third term, opening the field to a wide range of contenders. Recent polls show Marine Le Pen of Rassemblement National leading first-round voting intentions at 32-36 percent after an appeals court reduced her prior ineligibility sentence in July 2026, enabling her candidacy. Jean-Luc Mélenchon of La France Insoumise follows in most scenarios at 15-17 percent, while center-right figures such as Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal register lower but competitive shares. Over thirty candidates have declared, including Bruno Retailleau of Les Républicains, with a United Left primary set for October 2026 and ongoing party negotiations shaping final ballots amid polarized voter trends.
