A by-election for the Ontario provincial electoral district of York—Simcoe is currently scheduled to be held on September 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who wins the 2026 York—Simcoe provincial by-election. If the election results are not known definitively by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting. In case of ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official election results as published by Elections Ontario (https://www.elections.on.ca/).Susan Lahey holds a commanding lead in the York—Simcoe by-election market because the riding has delivered consistent Progressive Conservative majorities in recent provincial votes, most recently 59 percent in the prior general election. As the PC nominee hand-picked by Premier Doug Ford, the East Gwillimbury councillor benefits from party organizational strength, name recognition in a suburban riding north of Toronto, and the absence of a competitive challenger from the opposition parties. Nominations closed on August 20 with a field that includes Liberal Naomi Davison, New Democrat Bobby Nikmard, and several minor-party or independent candidates; advance voting and election day on September 3 are the remaining procedural steps. A late scandal, unusually low PC turnout, or an unforeseen surge by one of the other contenders remain the primary, though low-probability, routes that could narrow the outcome before polls close.
