Current forecast models point to a southerly wind shift on September 7 bringing cooler maritime air, widespread rain, and limited daytime heating to Wellington, positioning 12–13 °C as the most likely maximum. Recent observations from September 5 show highs near 13 °C under northwesterly flow, with September 6 expected to reach 13–14 °C before the change. Ensemble guidance and climatological baselines for early September (typical highs 12–14 °C) align with the market’s concentration on 12–14 °C outcomes, while lower probabilities on extremes reflect model agreement on persistent cloud cover and precipitation suppressing temperatures below 11 °C or above 15 °C. Updated MetService and international model runs over the next 48 hours will refine the exact peak.
