NASA will reveal the four Artemis III crew members during a June 9 press conference at Johnson Space Center, marking the primary near-term catalyst for trader sentiment on the crew market. The February 2026 program restructure shifted the mission from a lunar landing to a low-Earth orbit test of Orion docking with SpaceX Starship or Blue Origin Blue Moon landers, targeting late 2027 launch and pushing the first crewed surface mission to Artemis IV. All active NASA astronauts remain eligible, though the Artemis Team pool—including veterans from prior selections—dominates speculation. Traders monitor official statements and training timelines for clues, as the announcement resolves the market rapidly while highlighting ongoing delays in commercial lander development and certification.
