**AfD secured the most seats in Saxony-Anhalt's September 6 election with roughly 44% of the vote and 39 of 83 seats, well ahead of the CDU.** This outcome reflected sustained eastern German support driven by immigration concerns, economic pressures, and dissatisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz's federal coalition. National polls now place AfD at around 29%, ahead of the CDU/CSU on 18-20%, underscoring the party's momentum ahead of the September 20 contests in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, recent surveys show AfD leading at 36-37% versus the SPD near 35%, positioning it to claim the most seats in that eastern state as well. Berlin presents a different profile, with AfD polling around 20% while other parties such as the SPD, Greens, or Left remain competitive for the top spot. Trader consensus at 74% for exactly two September elections aligns with AfD's strong eastern performance and more limited prospects in the capital, where structural and demographic factors favor established parties. Remaining uncertainty centers on final turnout and whether late shifts in the two pending races alter the seat distribution.
