Federal prosecutors indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center in April 2026 on eleven counts of wire fraud, false statements to banks, and conspiracy to commit money laundering tied to its former informant program. The organization entered a not-guilty plea, and a federal judge in the Middle District of Alabama denied its motion to dismiss the case on vindictive-prosecution grounds in August. With trial scheduled to begin October 5, 2026, and the market resolving December 31, traders place overwhelming weight on procedural timing. Complex federal criminal proceedings of this nature rarely reach verdict or plea within the remaining weeks of the calendar year, producing the current 95 percent implied probability that no guilty finding will occur in 2026.
