France's 2027 presidential election, scheduled for April 18 and May 2, features a crowded field after Emmanuel Macron's ineligibility for a third term. Marine Le Pen cleared a key legal hurdle in July 2026 when her appeal reduced her ineligibility period, positioning her as the National Rally frontrunner with consistent first-round polling leads near 33-36%. Jean-Luc Mélenchon anchors the far-left challenge, while center-right contenders including Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal compete amid party divisions. The Republicans endorsed Bruno Retailleau without a primary, and a United Left primary is set for October 11, 2026. Ballot access hinges on securing 500 parrainages from elected officials alongside party nominations, with over a dozen candidates already declared and more expected before the filing deadline. Recent polls highlight polarization between extremes, shaping trader focus on which major figures clear procedural thresholds.
