Amazon raised its 2026 cash capex guidance to approximately $220 billion during its July 30 Q2 earnings release, up from an earlier ~$200 billion target, citing elevated memory costs and sustained AI-driven demand for AWS infrastructure. Q2 capex reached $53.1 billion, contributing to trailing twelve-month free cash flow turning negative at $7.6 billion as equipment purchases surged $66.1 billion year-over-year. CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that even this elevated spend leaves capacity short of demand through 2027, with AWS revenue growing 36.7% to a $169 billion annualized run rate and a $496 billion backlog. The company’s next quarterly update, expected in late October, will provide fresh visibility into spending trajectory and monetization progress.
