Anthony Albanese secured a decisive Labor majority in the May 2025 federal election and remains the incumbent seeking a third term by 2028, yet market prices reflect broad uncertainty over the extended timeline. Recent polling shows Albanese retaining a narrow edge as preferred prime minister, though with net-negative approval ratings, while Coalition leader Angus Taylor and One Nation’s Pauline Hanson draw notable support amid rising primary votes for minor parties. Internal Coalition pressures, potential leadership shifts, and economic conditions continue to influence trader assessments of viable paths to government formation under Australia’s preferential voting system. The wide distribution of prices across candidates underscores the potential for late developments in party room dynamics or national sentiment to reshape probabilities well before the next writs are issued.
