Recent polls ahead of today's Sachsen-Anhalt state election place the AfD at 41-43 percent, well ahead of the CDU at 22-23 percent, driven by voter priorities on migration and economic issues. In the proportional system requiring 42 of 83 seats for an absolute majority, the AfD's outcome depends heavily on whether smaller parties such as the FDP, BSW, or Greens clear the 5 percent threshold, as wasted votes for those falling short can boost larger parties' seat shares. Multiple late surveys show the AfD close to but short of the necessary margin in most scenarios. All other major parties continue to uphold a firewall against cooperation, leaving the AfD reliant on crossing the threshold alone. Trader consensus on an 82 percent probability against an absolute majority reflects these structural factors and polling aggregates.
