Recent July CPI data at 0.5% year-on-year, below expectations amid food deflation and softer core readings, has anchored trader views that August inflation will likely remain subdued near 0.7-0.8%. Persistent weakness in domestic demand, ongoing drags from pork and residence categories, and lagged effects from fiscal measures continue to limit upward pressure despite favorable base effects and seasonal vegetable or pork rebounds. Analyst forecasts cluster around 0.7-0.9%, with recent manufacturing PMI improvements and commodity influences offering limited upside. The 0.5-0.6% band retains support if food deflation persists, while higher outcomes reflect risks from policy transmission or external price shocks. The National Bureau of Statistics release, due in early September, will resolve the market.
