Recent polling averages position New Zealand First and the Green Party as the primary contenders for third place in the November 2026 general election party vote, behind National and Labour, with both minor parties typically registering 8-15% support. Coalition government performance on cost-of-living pressures and unemployment has shaped voter shifts, while New Zealand First benefits from Winston Peters' established base and policy focus on infrastructure and sovereignty. Green support draws from environmental and equity priorities, though recent 1News-Verian and other surveys show the emerging Opportunity Party gaining ground near the 5% threshold and pressuring smaller-party shares. Traders weigh these dynamics against historical precedent for minor-party volatility in New Zealand's MMP system ahead of the final campaign period.
