Darijana Filipović leads the market for the Croat seat in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tripartite Presidency ahead of the October 4, 2026 general election, backed by the dominant Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) and aligned Croatian parties. HDZ’s organizational reach in Croat-majority areas of the Federation, combined with endorsements from Croatia’s ruling structures, underpins her position. Slaven Kovačević, nominated by the Democratic Front as successor to term-limited incumbent Željko Komšić, draws support from voters favoring multi-ethnic or civic-oriented representation, though this base has historically relied on broader Federation turnout patterns. Zdenko Lučić, fielded by a coalition of smaller Croat opposition parties, fragments that vote further. Persistent debates over electoral rules—specifically calls for a dedicated Croat electoral unit to ensure “legitimate representation”—remain central, with recent Croatian parliamentary resolutions highlighting the issue without altering candidate positioning.
