The closely balanced 50% implied probability for higher turnout in the September 6, 2026 Sachsen-Anhalt Landtag election reflects competing pressures on voter mobilization. Strong AfD polling near 41% amid widespread dissatisfaction with the economy and prior CDU-led governance has heightened polarization, potentially boosting participation through heightened stakes and party activation efforts. Offsetting this, the recent leadership transition to Minister-President Sven Schulze and uncertain post-election coalition prospects could dampen enthusiasm among some segments. Historical turnout of 60.3% in 2021 provides a baseline, while recent eastern German state elections have shown mixed shifts. Late-campaign developments such as intensified get-out-the-vote drives, major rallies, or voter sentiment surveys could tip the balance, as could external factors like weather on election day.
