Recent strength in Treasury yields, with the 10-year near 4.72% and 30-year approaching 5.3%, has weighed on equity valuations amid concerns over fiscal deficits and persistent inflation pressures. The S&P 500 closed at 7,674.37 on August 21 after a 1.43% weekly decline, snapping a three-week advance, as elevated oil prices tied to Middle East tensions and hawkish Fed signals further tempered risk appetite. Traders are now focused on the week’s data releases, including August 26 GDP and core PCE, plus consumer confidence and housing metrics, which could shift rate-hike probabilities ahead of the September FOMC meeting and influence near-term index direction.
