The August 18 primary results, with Jeremy Matlow and Loranne Ausley advancing to the November 3 runoff after securing roughly 36% and 34% of the vote respectively, have kept the Tallahassee mayoral contest tight in trader assessments. Both Democratic-leaning candidates face a divided electorate where union endorsements for Ausley contrast with Republican mobilization and door-knocking efforts targeting Matlow's progressive record on local issues. Limited mid-July polling showed Ausley ahead among broader voters, including Republicans, while Matlow held an edge among Democrats, leaving substantial undecided shares. Upcoming runoff debates, turnout patterns in key precincts, and any late endorsements or policy contrasts on city governance could widen the gap before November.
