The tightly matched odds in this Buffalo City Metro mayoral market reflect a wide-open contest ahead of South Africa's 2026 local government elections, with the ANC still finalizing its nominee through recent interviews and internal shortlisting of figures including Ncedo Kumbaca, Nocawe Mafu, Princess Faku, Yomelela Tyali, and Bongiwe Sauli. Multiple opposition parties are also advancing candidates such as Nqabayomzi Kwankwa for the UDM and Mkhululi Dlevu for the EFF, fragmenting support across a municipality where coalition dynamics or slim majorities often decide the executive mayor. Fresh developments in party nomination processes and regional structures continue to sustain uncertainty, while any public endorsements, coalition talks, or shifts in ANC regional leadership could quickly consolidate trader views on frontrunners.
