China’s July CPI print of 0.5% year-on-year, down from 1.0% in June, has kept expectations for the August figure tightly clustered. Analysts cite persistent food deflation, soft domestic demand, and excess manufacturing capacity as ongoing drags, offset by seasonal rebounds in pork and vegetable prices plus modest support from summer services and recent oil-price movements. Core inflation held near 0.9%, while PMI readings through August showed only marginal stabilization in factory activity. These crosscurrents—base effects, weather-driven food volatility, and subdued consumption—leave the 0.5–0.8% range the clearest focal point among traders, with limited separation until the National Bureau of Statistics release expected around September 9–10.
