Recent July data showing China's annual CPI easing to a six-month low of 0.5%—below consensus forecasts—has anchored trader expectations for August around similar subdued levels amid persistent weak domestic demand and declining food prices. This outcome reflects ongoing deflationary pressures in consumer goods and services, with non-food inflation also moderating despite external energy cost influences from geopolitical tensions. The tight spread between the leading 0.5-0.6% and 0.7-0.8% brackets stems from uncertainty over monthly base effects, potential lagged fiscal support, and any reversal in commodity trends before the early-September release. Stronger-than-expected retail sales or producer price spillovers could shift probabilities higher, while further demand weakness or policy signals would reinforce the lower range.
