Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District features an open seat in the November 3, 2026 jungle primary after incumbent Julia Letlow announced her Senate bid. The race has drawn a crowded field of at least twelve candidates, including seven Republicans such as state Sen. Stewart Cathey, state Rep. Michael Echols, and Blake Miguez, plus five Democrats. With vote share split across multiple contenders in a district that leans strongly Republican, early polling shows leading candidates in the low-to-mid 20s. Louisiana’s rules require over 50 percent for an outright win or a December 12 runoff follows. This fragmentation, combined with limited time for consolidation before the primary, underpins trader consensus favoring no outright winner.
