Local government elections are scheduled to be held across Tasmania on October 27, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of the Brighton Council area as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as declared by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (https://www.tec.tas.gov.au/).Leigh Gray holds a dominant position in the Brighton Council mayoral market as the incumbent, serving since 2021 after earlier election as councillor in 2005, with recent elevation to Vice President of the Local Government Association of Tasmania in May 2026. This record of continuity and visibility underpins trader consensus on his re-election prospects ahead of the October 27 postal ballot. Phil Owen, a long-serving councillor since 1989, registers as the clearest alternative but trails significantly. Nominations for the seven councillor, mayor, and deputy mayor positions open on September 7 and close September 21, leaving limited declared challengers at present and contributing to broad 50% pricing across other named or unspecified candidates. The Tasmanian Electoral Commission will determine the official outcome based on compulsory postal voting.
