Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble models show Austin highs near 98°F on September 17 amid a shift from strong southerly flow and clear skies to easterly winds, increased cloud cover, and a 20-30% chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms. These factors limit peak solar heating and introduce modest cooling via moisture and convection, keeping most outcomes clustered in the mid-to-upper 90s. Trader emphasis on 96-97°F and 98-99°F reflects tight model spread around this range, with lower probabilities assigned to extremes given historical September variability and the short-term forecast horizon before final resolution.
