This market will resolve to "Yes" if Apple Maps displays "Lake America," "Lake of America," or a similar name including both "Lake" and "America" as the label for the body of water currently known as the "Lake Ontario" for the majority of users within the United States by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Changes which appear only in experimental features or subnational regional variants will not qualify for a “Yes” resolution. If both "Lake America" and "Lake Ontario" are used to label the body of water, this will qualify for a “Yes” resolution. The resolution source will be Apple Maps; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.President Trump signed an executive order on August 27, 2026, directing the U.S. Geographic Names Information System to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America in federal databases, citing economic and national interests amid escalating U.S.-Canada trade tensions. Google Maps implemented the change for U.S. users within days, displaying “Lake America” domestically while retaining “Lake Ontario” for Canadian users and dual labeling elsewhere. Apple Maps has not yet made the update as of August 31. The company previously aligned with prior federal name changes such as the Gulf of America. Administration officials, including Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, have stated that President Trump contacted Apple directly and expect compliance soon. Map providers vary in their approach, with some declining to adopt the new name. Resolution of related prediction markets hinges on Apple’s implementation timeline and geographic scope.
