Weather models from the National Weather Service and private forecasters show strong consensus for a daytime high in the low 70s Fahrenheit on September 14, driven by northerly flow behind a departing frontal system and building high pressure that limits mixing and warming. Recent observations confirm a sharp cooldown from mid-80s readings on September 12, with clear skies and moderate humidity expected to keep temperatures from exceeding 75°F. Historical September averages near 77°F provide context for the below-normal outlook, while minor model spread around afternoon cloud cover or wind shifts accounts for the secondary probability mass in the mid-70s. Official resolution will rely on the highest reading at Chicago's primary reporting stations.
