Recent July CPI data showing a modest 0.07% month-over-month headline increase and 3.4% year-over-year rate has anchored trader expectations for August, producing near-even implied probabilities of 35% each for 0.3% and 0.4% monthly gains. Persistent core pressures, stable energy price trends, and mixed signals from labor market indicators create balanced upside and downside risks, while broader macroeconomic factors such as Treasury yields and Fed communications on the policy path add to the dispersion. The August CPI release, expected in mid-September alongside fresh employment figures, will serve as the primary near-term catalyst capable of shifting market-implied odds.
