**The federal indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center, unsealed in April 2026 in the Middle District of Alabama, charges the organization with wire fraud, false statements to a bank, and conspiracy to commit money laundering related to its former informant program.** A superseding indictment followed in June, with a second adding a former finance director in August. The SPLC entered not-guilty pleas, moved to dismiss on vindictive-prosecution grounds, and saw that motion denied in August. Trial proceedings, initially eyed for October 2026, have been delayed until February 2027. With no verdict possible before year-end and the case still in pretrial stages, traders assign a 93.5% probability that the SPLC will not be found guilty in 2026.
