Diplomatic norms and historical precedent for US-China summits drive the near-certain trader consensus against any physical greeting beyond standard handshakes or formal gestures. Leaders maintain protocol-driven interactions shaped by bilateral tensions, domestic political considerations, and the high stakes of trade, technology, and security negotiations. No recent developments have altered these expectations. While late-breaking personal decisions or unusual circumstances could theoretically shift outcomes, such scenarios remain remote given institutional constraints and the public nature of summit proceedings.
