Recent MetService and international model guidance positions northwest winds and mostly sunny to overcast conditions to deliver a daytime maximum near 15–16 °C in Wellington on 2 September, aligning with the market’s strong 65 % implied probability for 16 °C. Early-spring climatology shows average highs around 13 °C, so current forecasts reflect a modest positive anomaly linked to a developing El Niño pattern and a weakening southwesterly flow after recent gales. Model consensus remains tight on the temperature range, with only minor spread from local sea-breeze or cloud effects that could trim the peak by 1 °C. Updated runs from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research and MetService, expected within the next 24–48 hours, will refine wind and cloud details ahead of market resolution.
