Recent June 2026 CPI data at 5.0% year-on-year, driven by fuel and transport costs amid geopolitical energy pressures, has lifted the 2026 annual average outlook and aligned trader consensus with the South African Reserve Bank's May forecast of 4.4% headline inflation for the year. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around 4.1-4.7%, reflecting uncertainty over whether moderating fuel prices, rand stability, and subdued food inflation will pull the full-year average toward the lower end or sustain upward momentum from core pressures near 4.1%. SARB's path to a 3% target by 2028 and analyst projections around 3.4% for 2027 provide counterbalance, leaving resolution sensitive to upcoming monthly releases and policy communications.
