Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,450–$4,480 amid heightened sensitivity to U.S. monetary policy expectations ahead of the September 15–16 FOMC meeting. Stronger-than-expected August nonfarm payrolls and surging crude prices tied to U.S.-Iran tensions near the Strait of Hormuz have lifted Treasury yields and rate-hike odds, pressuring the non-yielding metal, while dovish comments from Fed Governor Waller and persistent central-bank buying have provided intermittent support. Next week’s August CPI, PPI, and Michigan sentiment releases represent the key swing factors, as hotter prints could reinforce tightening bets and cap upside, whereas cooler data might ease yields and revive safe-haven flows. Geopolitical risk premia and ongoing reserve diversification continue to underpin the longer-term bullish structure above $4,200.
