Maine’s 2nd Congressional District features an open seat after incumbent Democrat Jared Golden retired, setting up a November general election matchup between Republican nominee Paul LePage and Democratic nominee Matthew Dunlap. The district’s rural character, recent Republican performance in statewide contests, and alignment with broader midterm dynamics have produced tight polling that keeps implied probabilities close. LePage’s statewide name recognition and fundraising contrast with Dunlap’s state government experience, while voter turnout patterns and ranked-choice voting elements sustain uncertainty. National economic conditions, candidate debates, and late-cycle endorsements could shift sentiment before Election Day.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
