**Canada's advance GDP estimate for July 2026 points to essentially flat monthly growth, aligning with the market's heaviest weighting on a 0.0–0.1% outcome.** Statistics Canada’s preliminary reading showed real GDP unchanged as gains in real estate, rental and leasing, and professional services were offset by declines in retail trade and manufacturing, following a 0.3% June increase that contributed to solid 0.9% Q2 expansion. July merchandise trade data reinforced the soft patch, with exports falling 2.3% while imports rose 2.2%, narrowing the surplus. Ongoing U.S. tariff uncertainty and elevated energy prices have tempered broader momentum, keeping near-term monthly readings subdued ahead of the official September 29 release. Trader consensus reflects these offsetting sector dynamics and the preliminary data’s limited upside surprise.
