Incumbent Ricardo Samaniego holds a commanding position in the 2026 El Paso County Judge race due to El Paso County's consistent Democratic voter registration advantage and his unopposed Democratic primary advancement. Former law enforcement officer Minerva Torres Shelton secured the Republican nomination in the March primary but faces structural headwinds typical for the minority party in this jurisdiction. Samaniego's recent endorsement of a U.S. Senate candidate and focus on local priorities such as mental health services and county operations have reinforced his standing among core supporters. Traders price the outcome at over 95 percent for the incumbent, reflecting historical patterns where similar local Democratic officeholders in heavily partisan counties retain office barring major scandals or turnout anomalies in the final weeks before November voting.
