Meetings conducted indirectly, for example, through designated mediators, facilitators, or interlocutors acting with the knowledge and authorization of the relevant governments, will qualify. Brief greetings, chance encounters, or talks otherwise not deliberately aimed at diplomacy or negotiation will not count. The meeting must be in-person (including indirect in-person meetings) and must be publicly acknowledged by either government or reported by a consensus of credible media. Remote meetings, phone calls, or other meetings where the relevant parties are not present will not count. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments of Russia and Ukraine, and a consensus of credible reporting.US-mediated shuttle diplomacy has intensified trader focus on near-term Russia-Ukraine contacts, with President Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner holding substantive talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on September 5, 2026, followed by planned meetings in Kyiv. The sides agreed to a three-day pause in strikes on each other's capitals to facilitate the visits, marking the latest in a series of US-brokered efforts after earlier rounds stalled. Russia continues to condition any settlement on territorial concessions in Donbas and security guarantees, while Ukraine seeks firm assurances against future violations. Scheduled follow-on discussions and Russia's parliamentary election timeline could shape whether bilateral or mediated meetings occur before key market resolution dates.
