Recent polling for New Zealand’s November 7, 2026 general election shows a tight contest, with Labour and National nearly tied on party vote and preferred prime minister ratings clustered around 15-23 percent for Chris Hipkins and Christopher Luxon. Luxon’s personal standing has declined amid sluggish economic growth, rising unemployment, and two National caucus confidence votes this year, the latest on August 12. These pressures have narrowed his lead over Hipkins in head-to-head measures and lifted Labour’s implied prospects. Nicola Willis remains a distant alternative within National circles, while minor-party leaders such as Chlöe Swarbrick and Winston Peters register minimal support. Trader consensus reflected in current pricing therefore tracks the competitive electoral math and recent leadership turbulence rather than any decisive shift in voter blocs.
