The upcoming November 2026 local government elections in Nelson Mandela Bay create a fragmented contest shaped by the ANC’s internal mayoral nomination process and multi-party competition. Andile Lungisa leads ANC shortlist contenders after July interviews with party leaders, while incumbent Babalwa Lobishe faces ongoing no-confidence pressure and coalition strains. The DA has positioned Retief Odendaal as its candidate amid efforts to build support in a metro where recent polls showed balanced ANC-DA shares. Additional names such as Siva Pillay remain in contention, but primary voter registration drives and final party lists due later in 2026 will determine ballot access. Trader consensus reflects these overlapping nomination, coalition, and campaign variables, with separation likely after ANC endorsement decisions or shifts in opposition alliances.
