Leonard Krog, the incumbent mayor seeking a third term after prior service as a BC NDP MLA, holds a strong lead in the October 17, 2026 Nanaimo mayoral race. His positioning reflects established name recognition and focus on core municipal services, with limited opposition declared so far. Anne Marie Dryden, backed by the newly formed Real Nanaimo slate, trails as the primary challenger emphasizing business experience and local priorities. A third candidate, Sarah Lovegrove, entered the contest in mid-August, while nomination deadlines run through early September. Trader consensus assigns Krog roughly three-quarters probability of victory, consistent with typical incumbency patterns in Canadian municipal elections, though the short campaign window and any late slate developments could still shift outcomes.
