The 2026 Big 12 rushing yards race features unusual depth, with multiple proven backs returning or transferring in after strong 2025 campaigns. LJ Martin of BYU enters as the consensus frontrunner after leading the conference with 1,305 yards and earning Offensive Player of the Year honors, though he faces a crowded field that includes Cameron Dickey of Texas Tech (over 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns), Wayshawn Parker of Utah (981 yards at 6.6 yards per carry), Caleb Hawkins of Oklahoma State (1,434 yards as a freshman transfer), and Cam Cook of West Virginia (FBS-leading 1,659 yards). Preseason previews highlight shared backfields, experienced offensive lines, and favorable early schedules that limit any single player’s path to dominance, keeping implied probabilities tightly clustered among a dozen viable candidates as the season opens.
